One of the best parts of this overlanding life is running into the people and stories you'd never expect. The off the beaten path stuff. The "wait, what?" moments.
That's exactly how I met the Owens family.
Jennifer and Sean are good people, and calling them "ordinary" would honestly be an insult. One of the many things that makes them stand out is one of their pets: Auto, the Overlanding Pig.
The Problem
Auto had gone through multiple dog beds, and he tore through every single one of them. Jennifer reached out asking if I could build something out of material heavy duty enough to actually survive him.
Challenge accepted.
Building It to Last
I dug into materials and worked with Jennifer to land on a plan: a custom cover made from some of the heaviest fabric I could put a needle through. Once I had the right material, I built it to take a beating:
Triple stitched every seam
Reinforced every corner
Installed a heavy duty zipper that wasn't going anywhere
No shortcuts. If this bed was going up against a pig with a grudge against soft furniture, it needed to win.
Delivery Day
I drove up to Tulsa to hand deliver the bed in person and spent the day hanging out at Rigs and Coffee. Good people, good rigs, good excuse for a road trip.
Auto took a little time to warm up to the new bed (change is hard, even for pigs), but he's settled in now and loves it.
The Bigger Point
Everything I build is backed for life. If Auto somehow finds a way to beat this one too, I'll fix it. That's the deal.
